When it comes to tattoo removal, the Q-switched laser is the best technology available. Removing an unwanted tattoo generally takes 5-15 treatments, but some colors can require additional sessions depending on the age of the tattoo, the tattoo’s depth and the colors in the tattoo. Black ink is generally the easiest to remove, and green takes the most time. The process works because the Q-switched laser is engineered to be attracted to the ink and to break it down into little particles. These particles are removed from your body by your lymphatic system, which generally takes up to 6 weeks. Because of this natural time frame, treatments are only done every 7 or more weeks apart.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH TATTOO REMOVAL

We provide numbing for tattoo removal procedures. A numbing solution is injected into the tattoo site and protective glasses will be placed over your eyes. The laser treatment itself is generally quite quick and painless due to the numbing. After the treatment, aloe vera, Aquaphor and a nonstick dressing will be applied to the treated area. This dressing is to remain on for 24 hours. After the 24 hours, the area is to be cleaned with a gentle cleanser and Aquaphor will be reapplied until healed. Typically, it takes 5 days for complete healing, but at times it may take up to 25 days.

We will not treat a tattoo that is tanned due to the risk of hypopigmentation and/or scarring. Once the treatment has been performed, the treated area shouldn’t get any sunlight for at least 2 weeks or until it’s healed.
