Dr. John G. Roth acquired Modern Dermatology of KY & Cosmetic Specialists as of January 1st, 2021, and is now the new Medical Director. Staff and patients alike are excited to have Dr. Roth use his extended experience and open-mindedness to implement more modern procedures and practices at Modern Dermatology of KY & Cosmetic Specialists while continuing to consistently provide high-quality care that leads to positive and lasting health outcomes.

After finishing a Dermatology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, he achieved Board certification and joined the practice in 1992. While he focused on plastic surgery early on in his career, John’s primary practice has formed around general dermatology, skin cancer surgery and cosmetic surgery. He sees patients and performs surgery in both the Lexington and London offices.

Dr. John G. Roth belongs to several medical societies including the American Academy of Dermatology, American Medical Association, American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons, Lexington Medical Society, and Kentucky Medical Association, and he maintains board certification through the American Board of Dermatology.

Dr. John G. Roth earned his undergraduate degree at Bellarmine University in Louisville and then graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Roth served as a Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves and on the Lexington-Fayette County Board of Health, where he was the Chair for four years. John is also an associate professor at the UK College of Medicine, where he trains residents in recognizing dermatological conditions. He serves on the board of the Lexington Medical Society and is a member of the Lexington Rotary Club.

Dr. Schaeffer was born in Louisville, KY, and grew up in Lexington, KY.

Dr. Schaeffer went to Dartmouth College in New Hampshire where he graduated from the Honors English program cum laude after studying Renaissance English literature while there he also received an academic citation for his work in cellular biology. His college years included semesters at Harvard University and the University of Granada in Granada, Spain. While in medical school at the University of Virginia, he was awarded a four-month Medical Perspectives Fellowship by the SmithKline Beckman Foundation, one of thirty awarded nationally to fourth-year medical students, to treat pediatric dysentery among refugees on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border during the Soviet-Afghan war.

After graduating from the University of Virginia Medical School in 1989, Dr. Schaeffer began his general surgical residency at the University of Utah Division of General Surgery in 1991 and then at the University of Utah Department of Surgery residency in Urology in 1994 . In 1995 he completed his Pediatric Urology Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. After three years in the private practice of urology and plastic surgery in Denver, Colorado, including work at the Children’s Hospital of Denver, Dr. Schaeffer returned to Lexington to teach pediatric and reconstructive urology and plastic surgery at the University of Kentucky, eventually becoming the Chief of Pediatric Urology. In 2002, he opened a private practice in pediatric and reconstructive urology and plastic surgery.

Dr. Schaeffer was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1999 and the American Board of Urology in both Urology and Pediatric Urology in 2008.

As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Hall has been providing dermatological care to his patients for more than 30 years. Dr. Hall specializes in general dermatology, skin cancer, dermatological surgery, and cosmetic and laser procedures.

In 1974, Dr. Hall graduated from medical school at the University of Kentucky. After completing his residency in 1978, he opened his office in Pikeville, Kentucky. Dr. Hall is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a member of the following societies:

 Amanda Johns, DO hails from Charleston, West Virginia. Her college soccer journey took her to Ashland University in Ohio, where she pursued her bachelor's degree at Xavier University afterward. Subsequently, Dr. Johns attended medical school at the esteemed West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, culminating in her residency completion at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Devoted to her profession, Dr. Johns actively participates in various medical associations, including the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and American Medical Association (AMA).

When not immersed in her medical endeavors, she finds joy in spending quality time with her fiancé and their beloved rescue dog, Bear. Exploring culinary delights at new restaurants, avidly following sports events, engaging in puzzles, soccer matches, and embarking on invigorating hikes are among her cherished pastimes.

Ragan Davies, APRN, a Nurse Practitioner at Modern Dermatology of KY & Cosmetic Specialists, She has been a provider with us since 2010 where she divides her time between general Dermatology three days a week and the Cosmetic Center one day a week. Ragan obtained her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of Central Florida and worked as a registered nurse (RN) for 11 years before pursuing a Master's degree from the College of Saint Catherine in St. Paul, MN. Her career in Cosmetics began in 2005, followed by Dermatology in 2007.

Ragan holds certifications from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Credentialing Center, as well as Sciton and Cynosure for the use of lasers in the practice. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioners. Ragan has received specialized training from Allergan and Galderma on Botox/Dysport and Dermal Fillers, and she has also received training in microneedling from Rejuvapen. Ragan attends conferences yearly and undergoes ongoing training in both Dermatology and Cosmetics to stay up-to-date on changes and new products.

Ragan's areas of expertise include using lasers for cosmetic improvement, providing acne treatment to teenagers, treating skin cancers, and helping individuals with psoriasis improve their quality of life.

In her free time, Ragan enjoys the great outdoors and time at the family lake house on Norris Lake. She is married, a mother of four, and a grandmother of seven beautiful children. Ragan considers her family to be the greatest joy in her life.

The featured services offered by Ragan and the practice include dermatological services, EZGEL, EZPRF, Rejuvapen microneedling, resurfacing lasers, BBL Photorejuvenation, and fillers for wrinkles, face, and lips.

Angela Ballard, APRN, FNP-C is a Family Nurse Practitioner who earned her Registered Nursing degree from Midway College. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan College. Angela has been working in the field of Dermatology for 20 years and is a member of the National Coalition of Nurse Practitioners.

Although she works with people of all ages, Angela thoroughly enjoys working with children. In her free time, Angela enjoys spending time with family and friends. She absolutely loves to cook, and she enjoys making new recipes and sharing them with her friends and family no matter how they turn out. Not many people know it, but Angela hates shopping with a passion.

Timothy “Tim” Smallwood, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, NP-C, is excited to join the practice as a nurse practitioner who will see patients for their dermatologic health needs as well as patients for their cosmetic desires! Following graduation from Morehead State University’s Nurse Practitioner program, he earned dual certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). With his certification, he can diagnose and treat patients through all ages of life. Prior to joining the team at Modern Dermatology of KY & Cosmetic Specialists, Tim worked in healthcare for over 10 years starting as an EMT, Paramedic, and Registered Nurse prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

Tim is a proud native of Menifee County, Kentucky. He currently resides in Lexington, Kentucky with his “fur babies” who were rescued from the Lexington Human Society. In his spare time, he enjoys spoiling his nephews, Logan and Tucker, spending time with friends and family, traveling, going on cruises, and playing music (piano). He is active with various community groups and enjoys being able to give back to the community.

When asked why he wanted to join the practice, he stated, “A person’s skin is the largest organ of the body and the first defense mechanism. It is important for people to maintain and respect the health of their skin and be aware of conditions that need to be treated. I also have a desire to provide cosmetic services to all adult patients because I know many men and women have higher self-confidence after undergoing various cosmetic procedures.”

Ashley Charles, APRN, is a highly skilled and board-certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) known for her expertise in providing exceptional dermatological services. With a strong educational background and extensive clinical experience, Ashley is committed to delivering personalized and evidence-based care to her patients.

Education:

Ashley earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from Chamberlain University in December 2019, enhancing her knowledge and proficiency in advanced nursing practice. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Chamberlain College of Nursing, achieved in April 2016. Ashley began her nursing journey by obtaining an Associate Degree in Nursing from the University of Pikeville in December 2009, laying a solid foundation for her successful career.

Certifications and Memberships:

In March 2020, Ashley achieved board certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, demonstrating her dedication to maintaining the highest standards of care. She is also a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, actively engaging with colleagues and staying up to date with the latest advancements in the field.

Experience:

Ashley currently serves as a valued member of the dermatology team at Modern Dermatology of KY & Cosmetic Specialists in Pikeville, KY since March 2022. In this role, she applies her specialized knowledge in dermatology to provide comprehensive and personalized care to her patients. Prior to her current position, Ashley worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Hilltop Primary Care from December 2019 to March 2022..

Throughout her career, Ashley has gained a reputation for her exceptional clinical skills, compassionate approach, and dedication to patient well-being. Her ability to establish trust and form strong relationships with her patients allows her to provide individualized care that meets their unique needs.

Ashley Charles, APRN, is a dedicated healthcare professional committed to delivering outstanding care and improving patient outcomes. Her contributions to the field of advanced nursing practice continue to positively impact the lives of her patients and contribute to the advancement of healthcare.

Alex Bowlds, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, initially received a Bachelor of Nursing Science (BSN) degree from the University of Kentucky’s College of Nursing in 2011. He worked as a Registered Nurse until he earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from UK in 2020. He was board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in 2020. He served the University of Kentucky’s Family Medicine department as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) for over two years before joining Modern Dermatology to begin a long-desired career in Dermatology. Alex will be practicing at our Paris and Richmond locations and is committed to providing quality care to Kentuckians of all ages. “In his free time, Alex enjoys spending time with family, friends, his two dogs, and listening to live music.” 

Janie McQueen, RN, BSN has worked for the Modern Dermatology of KY & Cosmetic Specialists since January 2004. She works exclusively in the Cosmetic Specialist's office providing laser and injection treatments. Janie graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing.

Janie is licensed and certified by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and has her certification from IAM laser. She is also trained and certified to inject, with needle or cannula, fillers Restylane-L, Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, VolumaXC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Juvederm Ultra XC, and also Botox, Dysport, and Kybella. Janie won a national award as RealSelf’s most-loved injector in 2018. Janie is additionally trained and certified on many lasers, including BBL Photorejuvenation, Arctic peels, Skin Tyte I and II, and the Halo hybrid laser. She’s experienced in laser hair removal, laser tattoo removal, removal of unwanted pigmented lesions, and removal of unwanted vascular lesions or spider veins with lasers. Janie loves the fact that she is able to help make her patients look and feel better about themselves.

In her spare time, she enjoys working out at the gym, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She is a Lexington native and has been married to Albert since May of 1982. Albert is an attorney in Lexington, and together they have 2 children: Brad, a Chef, and Caitlin, an attorney in Louisville. Janie is one of 7 children, all born within 8 years. Growing up, she and her siblings all played a musical instrument. She played the viola. At times the group of kids would entertain guests at home and were not only an orchestra together, but also a kickball team.

Kris Moghadamian, PA-C is a physician assistant who sees both dermatology and aesthetic medicine patients. Kris received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri, where she majored in Biological Sciences. She earned her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Kentucky.

Kris is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is licensed by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure. She is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and has previous experience working as a physician assistant in the emergency room. Kris frequently performs skin cancer screenings and treats acne, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, and other dermatologic conditions. She also injects Botox and Dysport and performs filler injections, laser hair removal, BBL laser treatments, Skin Tyte treatments, Halo, Sclerotherapy, and vaginal rejuvenation.

Ashley Sutton, PA-C is a Physician Assistant working with Modern Dermatology of KY & Cosmetic Specialists in dermatology and cosmetic services. Ashley received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Transylvania University in 2013 and her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Kentucky in 2016.

In her spare time, Ashley loves trying new foods and restaurants, hiking, painting, crafting, and baking. She is an avid supporter of anything having to do with UK Athletics. (Go Cats!) Ashley is also very adventurous; she enjoys traveling with her family to new places and has even jumped out of an airplane at 14,000 feet!

Caleb Rowe, PA-C is a board-certified physician assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and licensed by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure. In 2012 he graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, where he majored in Kinesiology. In 2015, he earned a Master of Medical Sciences degree from Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

Since 2015 Caleb has practiced dermatology in central and southern Kentucky. He treats medical conditions of the skin, hair, and nails, including acne, eczema, contact dermatitis, and skin cancer, with a particular interest in psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. 

Caleb is a native of Somerset, KY, and resides in Lexington, KY with his wife Jessie and daughter, Parker. Caleb and Jessie are members of Tates Creek Presbyterian Church. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with his family, supporting UK Athletics, golfing, traveling, live music, and horse racing. 

Caleb is accepting patients of all ages at our clinic locations in Lexington, Richmond and London. 

Andrea P Blankenship is a Physician Assistant Specialist at our Pikeville, Kentucky location. Andrea graduated from Pikeville College with a Bachelor of Science in 2000. Andrea then went on to graduate with honors from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 2003 with a Master of Science. Having more than 19 years of diverse experience as a Physician’s Assistant, Andrea is an important part of your team. Andrea P Blankenship has been a part of the team at Modern Dermatology of KY of Kentucky LLC. since 2004.

Andrea is also a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and the Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants.

Jessica Norris, LE, is a licensed esthetician accredited by the Kentucky Board of Cosmetology. Originally from Texas, Jessica made the move to Kentucky to be closer to her family and further her education in the beauty industry. With over a decade of experience as a professional makeup artist, Jessica is deeply devoted to staying ahead of industry trends.

Throughout her journey, Jessica has consistently demonstrated a passion for enhancing natural beauty and delivering exceptional skincare solutions. Her expertise extends to precision in facial treatments and proficiency in various advanced esthetic procedures.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Jessica cherishes her free time spent with her children – Olivia, Salem – and their beloved fur baby, Akira.
